The Heart Can Grow
The actor lifestyle can be quite the emotional rollercoaster. One day you are on top of the world working on a hit TV series, or Broadway show, and the next you're technically unemployed again, depressed and without any kind of structure or focus.
The only way I've known how to break out of this cycle is to have hobbies. Maybe your hobby is spending time with friends or your boyfriend, or it's a side job at a really cool coffee shop! Maybe your hobby is getting outside and going for long bike rides or training for marathons. I have an actor friend that used to take time off and build boats!!
I was all set up for an emotional crash this week. I had a blast on Monday and Tuesday working on a really cool TV show, and then Wednesday I was exhausted, lonely, and without an audition or appointment in sight to help me gain some focus or motivation.
Luckily, I have this great new hobby that pulled me out of my slump: songwriting. I've started to love songwriting so much that instead of being sad I don't have an audition one day, I might think to myself, "Goody! A whole day to figure out what to do with that song I've been working on!!" So the end of this week instead of wandering Manhattan in depression, I got together with a good friend and worked on my song-writing website! Check it out if you like! (www.emilykinneymusic.com)
Get a hobby! Get a life!! You can always drop them when your True Love comes calling.....And, who knows? Perhaps you will find another Love in the process. I think I have. The heart can grow.

I agree one hundred percent. Although I'm not an actor I can relate to the disappointments that life brings us. Hobbies keeps us moving forward.

This is a terrific post that makes a terrific point. I've been thinking about what to do when it's slow, acting-wise. This is helpful, thanks!
