Getting Shots
I'm meeting with my headshot photographer Janna Giacoppo in 45 minutes to get new shots taken. So clearly, the best use of my time right now is to be blogging.
At the moment, I'm simultaneously excited, nervous, and just flat-out terrified.
I have a tendency to - when travelling, and I'm most certainly over-packing for my shoot today. I have a suitcase with 29 tops in it. I'm only doing 3 looks. I'm pretty sure it's overkill. But I'm so nervous that I'll end up at the shoot and suddenly have this moment of clarity when I realize exactly what I should be wearing, and it's something I don't have with me. So I figure it's better to be safe than sorry.
On the upside, my photographer Janna is terrific. I had her take my last set of headshots (in April 2007), and I know she's going to make me feel comfortable and confident. But sitting in my room right now, I feel a bit less than that.
Here goes nothing.
I think I brought a lot too for my last shoot--maybe not as much as you, but a lot. It is good to have options. I noticed my photographer liked certain tops that weren't necessarily my very favorites. She also vetoed certain shirts because she thought the particular shade would wash me out on camera. Or with others, the neckline wasn't low enough. We didn't go for scandalously low necklines, but she liked the ones that were lower rather than higher, for elongating the neck. In retrospect I agree that it makes a difference.

And, it's just good to think about what "looks" you really want out of the shoot, in advance. Want a business-y shot? Make sure you have a blouse. Want a sexy shot? Definitely lower necklines, sleeveless, and/or tight are good.
If you want a wholesome, girl-next-door shot, a lot of options can accomplish this. And in some ways less is more. A nice colored shirt that is non-distracting is key. Keep the emphasis on your face and your smile.
