Has Anyone Seen My Blue Toothbrush?

I lost a blue toothbrush awhile back, and then I wrote a song about it, and right before I left for Alabama Shakespeare Festival, a friend of a friend heard my song and asked me to be a part of  Project 30 in 30. Project 30 in 30 is a group of NYU film students and their film-making friends who wanted to make music video for new, independent artisits.  The project would give them a chance to stretch their directing and video making muscles and also help out and possibly promote the kind of music they like!!

I was thrilled that someone listened to my little toothbrush song and was inspired to make something with it, so even though I didn't have much time before leaving for Alabama Shakespeare Festival, I signed on!  Then, they also asked me if I would be comfortable acting in the music video, since I was an actress and all. I said sure!

I was asked to help cast the 'boyfriend' part in the video, and I thought I would share my experience with you actors of the Backstage Blogosphere.  First let me say the part had to be cast very quickly, in just a couple of days!!  It had to be someone I was comfortable with and most importantly someone who could shoot the same days as me with my busy schedule.   Many times people cast their friends!  Including me!  You could be amazing, and not get a part and it has nothing to do with you. I didn't have time to search out someone new, so I went through my friends on Facebook to cast the part!  I go back and forth about how much I want to be involved in social networking sites, (A girl's got to have a private, personal life!!) but it sure does make reaching out to friends and other actors and artists easy and quick!!

Look is a huge factor, but in this particular situation, scheduling was a bigger factor.  The boy I originally asked to be a part of the video had scheduling conflicts so casting unfortunately became even more last minute!   I wanted someone who was super easy to work with and really wanted to be part of the project.  I wanted to cast someone who liked the song.  My friend Craig is super sweet, easy going, and seemed like he wanted to be a part of the video.  Plus, selfish me, I hadn't seen him for quite some time and couldn't wait hang out with Craig for a few hours and catch up!!   Plus, there's the obvious that Craig is super cute!!

I was just casting for a small-scale low budget music video, and every production is very different, but it was kind of fun being on the other side and doing the choosing.  Craig ended up being the perfect 'ex-boyfriend' for the video.  He's a great actor and a great friend...and adorable!

Last night, the video officially went live on Youtube.  I'm hoping more people will be interested in my songwriting and my upcoming EP with Scrumptious Music because of it!  Check it out!  I hope you all like the song.  It's fun to see what someone put with the words I wrote!!

That was so cute! I really like the way it was filmed, and you're so telegenic. I never noticed it before but physically you remind me a little bit of a younger, smaller Jane Krakowski. You're more of a petite, waif-y version, but at certain times in the video I noticed a resemblance. :)

Great job! And thanks for sharing the casting experience with us–––it's always interesting to hear how things work on the other side.
