Monologue Slam

Kappakonself I have been in NYC for about 3 weeks now and am getting used to the city and making a few new friends. I have been to a good amount of events and have enjoyed myself during fasion week last week. Nonetheless, this Tuesday, a new friend of mine had me do a cold read from a monologue book. Ironically, I have never done this before. It was very out of the blue but, what the hell. I went for it.  The page that he dropped on me was a pretty good monologue and I was doing good expressing my effection and love for this girl that i thought I would marry. Then, BOOM! I read the line that said "That's why I am trying to figure out why she killed herself." Needless to say, I fell out of character when we all bursts into laughter.

But this taught me something. I need to learn to cold read. I need to surround myself with other actors and delve into the acting environment of New York. The more we talked, he told me about Monologue Slams here in the city. Do any of your guys know about that? Its definitely something that I would love to attend. And i think a room full of my peers will let me know how prepared I am for my monologue.

If there isn't one, what would you guys think about launching a bi-weekly one?
