Hi, my name is Laura.
Nice to meet you, Unscripted, I'm Laura Hunter. Let's get to know each other!
Obviously, I'm an actress.
I grew up in a no-Starbucks town in Northern Virginia where I fell hopelessly in love with theatre at my little Catholic High School. I performed in school plays as well as regional productions in the nearby DC area, and found that I was never happier than when I was on stage.
Through carefully planned (though probably annoying) tactics, I managed to convince my parents to let me move to New York City so that I could attend college at NYU's Tisch School for acting. I lived in NYC for a number of years, though my major accomplishments in the city were unexpectedly more personal than professional.
I expected to become an overworked but lonely actress, and ended up in a fantastic relationship (with an actor!) but with only sporadic career accomplishments. To my own surprise, I have actually been very happy with this turn of events. New York led me to a sense of stability that I wasn't expecting to have at this time in my life.
Acting has remained the love-of-my-work-life, though, and I felt that New York's journey for me in that regard had come to a standstill.
So, my man and I took an eleven day road trip to sunny LA in January of 2010 to test the waters of the west for a couple of months. A few months has turned into a permanent move and I couldn't be happier about our new home.
I love the weather, and I feel excited and re-energized about my acting career. I'm hopeful about what this city has in store for me, and can't wait to see what happens.
What else can I tell you about myself? I'm an internet junkie. I maintain another blog at NonSociety and do a boatload of freelance design work as a "day job" instead of waiting tables. I like television more than movies. I love to cook and would rather sit at home for a nice meal with friends than go out on the town. I have a LOT of embarrassing stories, mostly acting-related, that I love nothing more than to talk about.
And finally... I'm very excited to be blogging for Unscripted!

Hey Laura - welcome to Unscripted! Where in NoVA? I grew up all over the place but my parents now live in Fairfax. There's a Starubucks, but not a whole lot else :)

A big welcome from DC :)

Thanks for the warm welcome, you guys!
Sarah - NOVA is kind of a large area, but Fairfax would for sure be considered a part of that. I went to high school about thirty minutes from there, but the town I grew up in is in the Shenandoah Valley and is much smaller (and more "country"!) than Fairfax which is quite built up. :)
