The Class I Wasn't Supposed To Go To...

IMG_4495 If you are in SAG and you are not a part of the conservatory JOIN NOW! It is 25 dollars for a whole year of classes and seminars. It is so worth it to be a part of it. Anyways, I was attending an advanced drama class and the teacher felt sick so he gave us scenes and assigned us scene partners for us to perform on camera in two days. I was pretty bummed because I had blocked out the whole night to be at that class. I wandered out of the room and peeked into another full of people that looked like actors. I saw a woman walking down the hall and asked, "who is the speaker on the panel?" "I am," she said proudly. "What do you do?" I said."I'm a commercial agent!" she replied.

Great! I snuck in through the side door while the man checking people in was helping someone else. Why not sit through a seminar with an agent, considering mine won't respond to my emails or phone calls. When she exclaimed she was a commercial agent at one of the top five agencies I moved eagerly closer to the edge of my seat.

Of course, with a lot of the people in the room complete beginners, they only thought about themselves when asking questions. Finally I got to ask mine, which was to recommend great head shot photographers and she told me some names and then after the seminar looked at my headshot (after waiting in a swarm of hungry actors bombarding the poor woman) and told me (surprise surprise) that I need new photos. She also told me that for women, it is better to have a bluntly cut hair and a little shorter.

A week later, I got my hair cut a few inches shorter at the Paul Mitchell school. (ten bucks! And they did awesome!) and emailed her the link to my website with my reels and of course told her I cut my hair and I would love to meet with her. I got a response right back (gosh why haven't I emailed agents before when submitting!? )  She told me she was going to look at my stuff and show the other agents this week!

And because that teacher was sick, look what came out of it! Hope I hear back from her! Wish me luck!

Another amazing place to meet agents/casting directors is The Actors' Network. You should check it out!

Yes! I have heard of them! I have a few friends that are a part of that. Isn't it pretty expensive though?
