Lemon's Lurve List Item 9: Midnight 'Sex and the City'

I never watched this show when it first aired on television.  I think I was in high school and my family didn’t get HBO.   It’s not as though I’m a huge fanatic; I haven’t even seen the Sex and the City movie that came out last summer. 

My lurrrve for Sexy and the City started back in 2007 with the TBS rerun versions when I was keeping busy performing Iphigenia 2.0 at the Signature Theatre.   Every night I would come home and be too wired to go to sleep.  I would flip on the TV, and when I would get bored with the late night talk shows, I would flip over to the only other show on at midnight that caught my interest:  Sex and the City.  Pretty soon I was hooked on the girls in the city.  It was fun to watch too because I actually knew some of the places and restaurants they were talking about in the show!  Soon it became a routine, and when I wasn’t out celebrating with cast mates after a show I would come home, make popcorn, and unwind with Sex and the City. 

During Spring Awakening I would do the same.  And even now, especially because I’ve morphed over the last couple years into a night owl, I stop whatever work I’m doing or audition song I’m singing at midnight to make some tea or a snack and watch those  four sexy girls for a half an hour.  It doesn’t matter if I’ve seen the episode before or not. My midnight Sex and the City has become one of the best parts of my day!

Sometimes I like to think I’m a little bit like Carrie Bradshaw.  Remember the episode where she dated a very sexy, but totally ADD bass player?  Yep, been there, done that!! (And recently. Ha!) Or how about that she writes about her dating adventures in the city for others to enjoy?  That’s kind of like how I write about my acting adventures for Back Stage!  Yep, Sex and the City makes me excited to be a girl having fun and going after her dreams in big New York City! 

There’s also some great acting….one really great scenesfor your viewing pleasure is posted below. I actually just saw this episode/scene last night and it was what inspired this post!  It is one of my favorites!  Enjoy….

It's a great show. Because I have seen it on HBO, watching it on TBS can be frustating because I remember everything that they edited out. Sometimes it's just language, sometimes it's jokes, sometimes it's part of a scene, sometimes it's a whole scene. (Believe me, a LOT of good Samantha stuff gets edited out of TBS.)

Having said that, I admit that I still enjoy watching it now and then on TBS too.

The "You have to forgive me!" scene, ah yes! Can't tell you how many episodes I have watched, but this scene remains one of the most gut-wrenchingly true and strong moments for SJP as an actress.
