You Will Not Defeat Me!!!
It's Day 5, and I am still sick as a dog. I don't remember the last time I was this sick. If you could see me now--okay, no, you definitely don't want to see me nor do I want to see you, BUT if you picture a bum in pajamas, woolly socks, an enormous fuzzy bathrobe and a green stocking cap over unbrushed hair, shivering in 70 degree weather and taking a sip of diet 7-up...well...you get the picture. I'm miserable and I have a show tonight at 11 pm with no understudy and am producing and acting in a short on Sunday that I cannot and will not reschedule. I'm determined to kick this flu in the behind once and for all...preferably by about 10:30 pm tonight.
What do you do when you're sick and feel like you can't perform? I don't know. It's never happened to me. I do remember going to acting class in college when I was horribly sick (my professors encouraged it, of course, because missing class was the biggest sin in the book no matter what the circumstances) and I remember that during some of the exercises my concentration was so great and my mind so was so focused that I forgot I was even sick! Mind over matter?
Of course, I've been chanting things like, "You will not defeat me you dirty coward!" and "Out! Out! Ye damn spot!" but only time will tell if my flu bug is listening and/or scared of my wrath.
Echinacea? Check!
DayQuil / NyQuil? Yep!
Hot Tea? Cold Jello? You bet.
Homemade chicken noodle soup? Thanks, boyfriend.
18 hours of sleep a day? zzzzzzzz
But seriously, what do you do when you're sick and the show must go on? Conserving energy is definitely at the top of my list. Not puking on stage tonight is a close second. I don't have any options. I must get better. I will defeat this flu!!!
Aww, Stace!! I felt nauseous this afternoon and when I got home at night, I got sick & then it happened two more times. I'm hopng that's the last of it but I guess I'll have to see. (I was thinking it was just a one-day bug, and it might be, but your post makes me think I shouldn't be so optimistic...yet)
Anyway, I will keep good thoughts & vibes for you that you are way better by showtime. Being sick is NO fun!!!
************Lots of Good Vibes*********
