Home for a Day

Me and gerard defying inequality This week I reunited with my Spring Awakening buddies to sing at a benefit called Defying Inequality.  It was soooo much fun!! It was so wonderful to rehearse and catch up with my fellow cast members, some who I hadn’t seen since closing night back in January!!  It was also an honor to help raise money for such a great cause.

The concert was held at the Gershwin theatre.  Wicked is pretty much my favorite musical in the whole world and I’ve seen it three times, so you can imagine how excited I was to be back backstage, reading callboards and seeing props from the show. I was sort of wandering around during tech rehearsal and before the show fantasizing that I was in the Wicked and getting ready to make my entrance as one of the witches, but then I realized I didn’t have to imagine...because I was really going to get to perform on that stage!  Maybe I wouldn’t get to sing Wicked songs, but I would get to jump around and flip off the audience with all my friends!!

For the show, we did a cute little skit and then sang 'Totally Fucked.'  I was reminded how long it had been since I had jumped around the stage like that because when we ended the song I was breathing much harder than I used to during the show….Hmmm, I might be a bit out of shape!

I miss being at the theatre.  Earlier in the day, we had a technical rehearsal.  I came a little early and stayed much later than just the time it took to rehearse our Spring Awakening number. I watched the Broadway Boys and the cast of Hair practice their performances.  What talented and sexy people I get to perform with!!!

To be honest I could have hung out and watched the other groups start and stop and practice their numbers all day long.  I love being in the theatre.  I love spending all day in a technical rehearsal and then camping out with everyone and eating food during breaks. I love being all sweaty in my comfy rehearsal clothes and then I love spending time in front of the mirror putting on my makeup or doing my hair for a show.  Even if I’m not doing anything but sitting in the house, watching everyone else do their thing, it just seems like the natural place for me to be.  It’s my favorite place in the whole world.  It just feels like home…I wonder if I will be going home soon, or where my next home will be.
