Experienced Or Jaded

N588588841_896678_2452 I went on "avail" or "hold" or whatever it's called for a commercial the other day... Where there was a point in time YEARS ago I would celebrate this information, at some point I stopped writing the possible dates in my calender, and these days my first question to my agent is, "how many others got the same call?"

Most of the time they don't know, and I'm the only one from my agency on "hold"... But occasionally two or more from my agent's office go on "avail" for the SAME CHARACTER... Which probably means, several agencies have people on "avail" for the same gig.

It doesn't rule out the chance of booking, but it does reduce the odds... It's all okay, as it's one of the ways the business has changed. Call backs to all backs. Two people on hold (first choice and back up) to putting a butt load of people on a term that means pretty much nothing.

Feel free to throw out career suggestions?

Well, after not the best week, too much editing, too much self evaluation, too much observation, too much NPR information on the financial markets, too much YouTube in the political arena (wanna be scared watch Katie Couric's interview of Palin), and personal aspects, an Anoa  at the zoo must have known I needed something, and was showing me some love...

Strangely this creature (like a small cow with horns that sounds like a duck) has become more and more friendly towards me on my weekly walk up the hill to one of my volunteer gigs. Coincidently, one of my next projects will be repairing and improving something for him/her (no I didn't look). Someone on Facebook said the picture is reminiscent of Shrek and Donkey, and you know what, it kind of is.
