SAG VOTES

So, there's a new "slate" of endorsed candidates running for SAG board  seats, and it's called Unite For Strength. I only have talked to one of them, who happens to be a friend of mine... And while I'll be voting for him, I won't be voting for the majority of the others.

I love the thought of all actors under one roof, something many of us have been saying for years... But the reason I and many people voted down the proposed merger years ago was it WAS THE WRONG WAY TO DO IT. With every contract in your life, you have to read the big print, but more importantly, you have to read the small print and what may be being swept under the rug. That proposed deal a few years ago, had really bad small print. Just like the contract with agents... That too had some very bad small print.

So what does any of this have to do with the current vote...

I love the big print... Unite For Strength... It sounds good. It'd be great to have one contract and one union for all actors. However, no one I know who makes a living as an actor DOESN'T WANT THIS. It's all just a question of how it will be achieved... And I haven't heard anyone for UFS come up with a plan.

As a matter of fact the only thing I know about UFS that has any real specifics is that some of the slate, and some of the celebrities that endorse the slate VOTED YES on the AFTRA contract... The same contract I was so against on this blog. The same contract that I believe is the main reason why we still don't have a SAG contract in place. And with a little research, it's been found out that more of the small print of the UFS slate is that many of the names on the slate are for qualified voting... Something that I'm generally not for, and you can bet I would have the magnifying glass out for that one.

I know many of the people on the Membership First slate... I know what they believe in, how they voted, what they're trying to accomplish... I also know one or two of the "independents," I know how they voted, and think I know what they believe in.

The one UFS candidate that will get my vote didn't vote for the AFTRA deal, and isn't for qualified voting. He seems to be among the minority of that "slate" and he's walked a few lines with me, and has always been open and interested in my voice and thoughts...  The few independents I will vote for, I feel the same about.  The rest of my votes will go to Membership First candidates. First to the people I know the best, and then in a descending order of my knowledge of them, until I run out of dots to fill in...

If you're curious about who I'm specifically voting for... Feel free to ask me off this blog. But that's as specific as I'm going to post and endorse, here.
