Southern Exposure
Wrote up 10 postcards tonight. Walking to the blue box on the corner for my evening constitutional after this posting, which will now be my nightly tradition. I've made it my goal to write up 10 postcards 5 nights a week. Constant variation: casting directors, agents, industry friends, directors, producers, people I've worked with in the past, etc.
I also am researching: via google, IMDb, trades, word-of-mouth, magazines, etc...ways to meet some of the people I don't know who I AM mailing. And when I say meet I'm not saying look up their address and stalk them...ew. I'm saying, what workshops are they privvy to, what screening or Q& As might they be at, does their office offer generals, maybe follow-up with a phone call, etc. Insert many-many possibilities. Also, just getting out more to actor-related activities. While I will continue to go out on Friday nights salsa dancing...it's not helping me much as an actor at this point. Though it IS helping me brush up on my dancing skills.
Exposure, networking, researching...and taking all that to A NEW LEVEL. Making it a nightly ritual (for a little while) to research the people and write up the postcards. Making it a morning ritual to check IMDb every morning for news. Read the trades daily again...get into Actor-Groove at a more committed level. Create rituals, routines, and clean out my car. Brush up on cold-reading...
There's a checklist a mile long. But...before I get ahead of myself...
I have a brief stroll to the blue box on the corner.
Oh--and if you have any helpful rituals or ideas that have helped you (other than cracking open a bottle of vino)...please feel free to share.
Oh--and another ritual I've returned to---and this is off-topic but---a GREAT TIP!
For the LA ladies out there: A salon that I just LOVE (and that is affordable, hello! and SUPER CLEAN) is Flirt Salon in Burbank on Hollywood Way/Magnolia. So if you've bought that fabulous bikini...but aren't quite "beach-ready", see Meredith at Flirt. Tell her I sent you. Then you'll be ready for all kinds of southern exposure... have fun in the sun!
