Onward and Upward
Next week is a busy week already. I have a meeting with a commercial agency. Huzzah! Looking forward to chatting and getting to know some new folks and see if we might do business together. Prospective situations like that used to make me nervous as hell. Not anymore. I took Christinna Chauncey's 8 Week Audition Prep Intensive and MAN was it worth it! Totally, seriously, completely changed the way that I approach an audition mentally & physically. My husband took it too and we both found that it was affordable (which is huge in this town), challenging, and encouraging.
Christinna shows you how to use the camera in the audition/interview in a very specific way so that it becomes part of your body. I began to feel that the camera was my own face, that it translated every thought that came out of my eyes and my mouth and put it right into the minds of those watching. She talked us through the casting process and by giving me knowledge of the process she "demystified it". This is a term she uses often and you'll see on the first page of her website. Taking the mystery out of the process gave me back my power as a person and as an actor. Granted, I still have a ways to go. It's still a journey.
However, I only moved here 10 months ago and already I feel as though I could walk into a room with the President of CBS or NBC or whatever network and say "Hi, how y'all doin'" and not be trembly-kneed. Though, I probably wouldn't use those exact words when meeting a network exec. Granted I'd still have some nerves and all, but now I know what to do with them and where to put them. I feel confident using the camera and walking into and out of a room and I TRUST the work that I do now. She gave me a newer, simpler, more effective process that I am still honing.
