Friday on Saturday

I waited to blog yesterday until after my "schmooze fest" with another gal-friend at a local bar to see if our adventure would turn anything up. Well, here I am blogging after noon on Saturday--guess I had a little fun! (And of course, did I remember to bring my camera...nope. Sigh.) We went to Lucy's on Riverside (cross street, Forman). Great bar! There's no sign telling you it's Lucy's though. Must be the "cool" thing to do. It did cause my friend to drive around for a whole hour before finding the joint. The downside of the cool factor, I suppose. But once you're in, it's an easy atmosphere, the bar-tenders are fast and friendly and the crowd is mostly late 20's early-mid 30's. Lots of industry peeps!

I chatted up a fabulous young lady who worked for Warner Bros. and a young gentleman chatted me up! (Huzzah--I still got it!) The drinks are good-sized and they don't skimp on the alcohol. I showed up in a little black number (emphasis on the the little part) and felt rather over-dressed. (Damn near slutty, too, next to the slacks wearing gals.) The crowd is very jeans, black tops, quirky, friendly, and man, can they toss 'em back. Great conversations all night. I stayed away from the whole, "Hi, I'm an actor!" bit. Sometimes, it's important to just shoot from the hip as a human and not wear your actor-ness on your sleeve.

Though Lucy's is a little spendy if you're on a budget; it IS suburban-y Toluca Lake and the drinks are worth it. Huge olives, too, if you're a martini fan. (Which I happen to be.) Little non-sequitur for you: the BEST martini I've ever had was at Fish Emporium or something like that out in Santa Monica. Caramel apple martini. Yum. Sometimes, you just gotta get out! I did pay for my little outing by waking up at 3:00 AM with incurable insomnia and a headache. (Emergen-C & Ibuprofen fixed me up.) Right back to the grindstone at 8:00AM with a Pilates Mat Class (instructed). Those late nights don't come without a price.
